Nestled just outside the bustling French Quarter, Cochon Restaurant in New Orleans offers an authentic Cajun and Southern dining experience that truly captures the soul of Louisiana’s rich culinary heritage. Located in a beautifully renovated warehouse on Tchoupitoulas Street, Cochon perfectly blends rustic charm with a warm, inviting atmosphere that beckons both locals and visitors alike.

Cajun cuisine at Cochon is elevated to an art form. Every dish bursts with vivid, complex flavors that showcase the best of Southern culinary traditions. Start your meal with the irresistible Fried Boudin Balls, crisp on the outside with the perfect savory filling inside, or the Wood Fired Oysters with Chili Garlic Butter, which bring a smoky heat and richness that linger delightfully on the palate. The complimentary bread rolls served warm are a comforting prelude to the feast that awaits.

The menu is a treasure trove of regionally inspired delights. The Rabbit and Dumplings offer a unique twist on traditional Southern fare, tender and hearty with nuanced seasoning that comfort and intrigue with each bite. For those craving deep, slow-cooked flavors, the Smoked Beef Short Rib Grits marry velvety grits with robust, melt-in-your-mouth beef that sings with smoky sweetness. Meanwhile, the Boucherie Board is a celebration of cured and smoked meats, complemented by house mustard and pickles, perfect for sharing and savoring.

Seafood lovers will find themselves enchanted by the Oven-Roasted Gulf Fish “Fisherman Style”, a dish that highlights the freshness of the Gulf’s bounty with delicate seasoning and a perfect roast. The Fried Alligator with Chili Garlic Mayonnaise offers an adventurous twist, delivering a satisfying crispness paired with fiery, creamy dips. For an iconic bite, the Le Pig Mac cleverly reinvents the classic burger with Southern flavors layered generously for indulgence.

Cochon’s beverage program deserves a special mention, especially the thoughtfully curated whiskey flights like the Alice in Wonderland Flight, which takes you on a sensory journey through notes of butterscotch, clove, caramel, and sherry, beautifully complementing the cuisine.

Exceptional restaurant. It is no wonder why this restaurant is busy despite its location outside of the French quarter. The food is excellent with service to match. You cannot go wrong with any dish on the menu. It is elevated southern cooking with unique tasty items such as the rabbit and biscuits. The brisket was also well cooked with balanced flavor. Their crab appetizer was very tasty although I preferred it dipped with the house bread rather than the toasties that accompanied the dish. The plates are hardy but not too heavy, so it was a welcomed break from the fried and carb heavy meals found throughout NOLA. You can tell the quality of the restaurant based on the pre meal fresh artisan bread served. This restaurant checks all the boxes required for it to be considered a high quality restaurant.

We dined here on our first night in the city. The restaurant is in a renovated warehouse and the decor first right in with the esthetic. It was busy but got a table without a reservation. Definitely reserve on the weekends. Crafted cocktails were great, though a little pricey. It’s the menu that is the star if the show!! The boudin should definitely be tried! The rabbit and dumplings were fantastic!! Great flavor and use of herbs, brisket was also great!, but a suggestion for those who are from great barbecue states- try something else- definitely good but you can get good brisket where you live. Amazing fresh rolls and the banana pudding is a must try. Service was friendly and professional. Definitely coming back.

We took a while to get a table because we are in town for a conference. When we were seated they brought delicious bread and butter, and me and my friend had gumbo and we share the boudin balls. Both were superb. The boudin balls were super crispy and the gumbo was less thick that I’m used to but super flavorful. It was a very cold day and gumbo is what my soul needed. The bathroom was also very clean.

Great meal! Wood fired oven adds a subtle smoky flavor to the food. We had wood fired oysters ( gluten free) catfish courtbouillon ( gluten free), tomatoes and okra ( gluten free) and beef brisket. Everything was excellent. I appreciate that they listed all their gluten free items on a separate menu. The atmosphere is relaxed and our server was great.

The food was tasty. We loved their pulled pork dish and the grilled oysters. The fried alligator was also pretty good. I would skip the brisket, it had good flavor but didn't love the preparation. Service was good and price was fair.

The bread was incredibly fresh, hot, soft, and fluffy, and tasted amazing with the butter. We actually liked it so much that we ordered it twice. The alligator bites were a fun and unique try; they were fried kind of like popcorn chicken, and they were pretty decent. The crab was quite tasty too, especially when paired with the little crackers. The pork dish was interesting. It felt like the meat was first slow-cooked and then finished with a slightly charred crust on the outside. The flavor was good, though a bit on the salty side for me. It also came with that crispy, paper-thin fried shell on the side, which was surprisingly delicious. Overall, I think the pork would taste even better with some rice. In general, it was a solid meal and we enjoyed most of what we ordered.

The food was very flavorful, but overall it wasn’t the best experience. We ordered the fish, the gumbo, and the cochon. While each dish had good seasoning and bold flavors, none of them really stood out or felt memorable.

My husband and I first dined at Cochon several years ago, and I’ll admit I was a little hesitant to return since I no longer eat pork or beef. But just like our first visit, the restaurant did not disappoint. The food is exactly as I remembered—well seasoned, flavorful, and simply delicious. We ordered a wide range of dishes to share, and every plate delivered. The meal began with complimentary warm rolls and butter, followed by okra and stewed tomatoes (oh my gosh—yum!) and peaches with cured pork belly. From the wood fire, the Gulf fish (red snapper) was perfectly cooked, and the oysters with chili butter were rich and indulgent. The cucumber and herbs salad leaned vinegar-forward, which I loved for its brightness. At the table, others enjoyed the grilled pork neck, macaroni and cheese, chicken and andouille sausage, green beans, and grilled sirloin with potatoes. Even with my dietary restrictions, I found plenty of satisfying options. Dessert was a smorgasbord worth mentioning on its own: watermelon sorbet, banana pudding, pineapple upside-down cake, apple pie, and the standout—a miniature loaf of chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Each sweet treat felt like the perfect ending to an already memorable meal. Cochon remains one of those restaurants that stays true to its roots while delivering consistent quality. Whether it’s your first time or a return visit, it’s a dining experience worth savoring.
